Our post-secondary education institutions offer a wide range of courses and credentials from trade certifications to doctoral degrees. We have state-of-the-art research and innovation facilities and top-quality educators, which attract students from across Canada and around the world.

The application process and fees vary by post-secondary educational institution. Students are encouraged to check with each institution for specific information.

Post-Secondary Education Institutions that are designated to accept international students are identified with an asterisk (*) beside the institution name.

The Government of Saskatchewan has temporarily paused applications for designation in the Saskatchewan International Education Program (ISP). Post-secondary education institutions interested in becoming designated to host international students for programs longer than six months will not be able to apply for designation until January 2026.

1. Universities

Saskatchewan has two world-class universities: the University of Regina and University of Saskatchewan. The universities are post-secondary education institutions that offer courses and programs in academic disciplines that lead to degrees, diplomas and certificates at the bachelors, masters and doctoral levels. Both universities offer distance education and correspondence courses in addition to those offered on campus.

The universities also conduct globally recognized research that generates new knowledge and contributes innovative ideas to the world.

Both universities are designated to accept international students.

University of Regina*

The University of Regina (U of R) prides itself in being an inclusive campus and welcomes students from around the world, supporting them in a variety of ways. The university has campuses located in Regina and Saskatoon on Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories that support 16,000 students from 90 countries. Its main campus is in the City of Regina located in beautiful Wascana Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America.

The university boasts 10 faculties and 25 academic departments that deliver more than 200 undergraduate and graduate programs of study. It is known for its focus on experiential learning and wellness and health studies and is focused on providing all students with opportunities to learn hands-on, either through community partnerships to enable work placements for students, or through direct experience provided within each program.

The university offers degree programming in areas such as engineering, business administration, science, education and social work, as well as a number of health-related fields including nursing and kinesiology and health studies.

The University of Regina is one of Canada's top 15 comprehensive universities and was ranked 1st for undergraduate research in 2020. It also ranked 6th best university of Psychology Degrees in Canada.

University of Saskatchewan*

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) is one of the top research-intensive, medical doctoral universities in Canada, and is home to world-leading research in areas of global importance, such as water and food security, infectious diseases, agriculture, information technology, health services and biotechnology.

USask’s main campus is located in the vibrant city of Saskatoon on Treaty 6 territory and the traditional home of the Métis. This historic campus is recognized as one of the country’s most beautiful, with plenty of green space, stately greystone buildings and tree-lined walkways.

With a student population over 25,000, USask welcomes students from 131 countries. The university offers a variety of degrees, diplomas and certificates at bachelor, master and doctoral levels in over 100 program areas. USask also offers English for academic purposes.

The university’s diverse range of programs include degrees in agriculture, arts, business, education, engineering, kinesiology, law and science, as well as a full range of health sciences including dentistry, medicine, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.

The University of Saskatchewan is ranked top five in Canada in the study of water resources (1st); numerous engineering fields including materials and science engineering, chemical engineering, energy science and engineering, and environmental science and engineering; public administration; agricultural science; and veterinary science.

2. Federated Colleges

Federated colleges are academically integrated with one of the province’s two universities, but they are legally and financially independent with their own or separate governing boards. They generally offer undergraduate arts and science degree programs recognized by the university where they are federated, and the credentials are awarded by the universities.

3. Affiliated Colleges

Affiliated colleges are associated with one of Saskatchewan’s two universities but are not typically academically integrated. Most of the affiliated colleges are theological colleges. Some offer courses to fulfil first- and second-year arts and science course requirements for university degree programs or to meet the entrance requirements for some of the professional colleges within the universities.

4. Polytechnics

Polytechnics (also known as technical institutes) in Saskatchewan offer post-secondary credentials in applied fields, including degrees, apprenticeship training, diplomas and certificates. These institutions provide programs that are responsive to the industry and support economic development through applied research. Technical institutes offer training that meets the needs of industry and employers, and students graduate with job-ready skills.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic*

Located in each of the province’s four largest cities (Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw), Saskatchewan Polytechnic is the province’s leading publicly funded post-secondary technical and skills training institute.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has nearly 15,000 students from 47 countries and offers more than 80 post-secondary programs to international students that lead to rewarding careers in business, information technology, health, mining, transportation and other sectors.

Approximately two-thirds of Saskatchewan Polytechnic programs offer a work-integrated learning component to gain real-world experience. Depending on the program, students will reinforce their skills through labs, clinical placements, field investigations, outdoor camps, machinery time, workplace practicums and/or co-op work terms.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has a consistently high graduate employment rate and a global reputation for innovative, industry-focused programming.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic has a 94% employment rate within six months to one year of graduation. 94% of graduates are satisfied to very satisfied with program quality.

5. Indigenous Education

There are three Indigenous and northern education institutions recognized in Saskatchewan:

First Nations University of Canada*

The First Nations University of Canada specializes in Indigenous knowledge, providing post-secondary education for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students alike, with campuses in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.

The First Nations University of Canada is also considered a Federated College and is academically integrated with the University of Regina. The Regina location is situated on the University of Regina campus and is on the Star Blanket Cree Nation’s atim kȃ-mihkosit (Red Dog) urban reserve.

The First Nations University of Canada is designated to accept international students.

Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research

The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research has locations in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, La Loche and other community site locations, and is committed to ensuring a strong Métis voice as a post-secondary education provider, employment trainer, and a cultural resource producer.

Gabriel Dumont Institute has a partnership through the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP) with the universities to offer accredited classes leading to degrees for students of Indigenous ancestry or from the North.

Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies

The Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nations-governed educational institution that provides adult learners across the province with academic, vocational and technical training, as well as services and supports for employment and career growth. SIIT has locations in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert and other community site locations.

6. Regional Colleges

Located in vibrant and welcoming communities throughout the province, Saskatchewan’s regional colleges offer high quality post-secondary education programs in learning environments of 24 students or less.

Saskatchewan’s regional colleges offer a variety of programs and skills training in the areas of trades, agriculture, business and health programs, leading to certificates, diplomas and degrees. There are also select programs that offer post graduate opportunities. Programs at regional colleges are shorter in length and tailored to ensure students are prepared for the Canadian workforce.

7. Study in French

In Saskatchewan, there are several ways you can pursue a world class education in French.

La Cité universitaire francophone* of the University of Regina offers select degrees in French, such as a Bilingual Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN), as well as opportunities to study French as a second language. La Cité offers an ideal setting for a bilingual university experience – students can learn in a favorable immersion environment while familiarizing themselves with the Fransaskois community.

The Faculty of Education at the University of Regina offers French teaching degrees such as the Baccalauréat en éducation française* and the Maîtrise en éducation française* to prepare its graduates to successfully teach at English language schools, French immersion schools or Fransaskois schools.

Collège Mathieu* has three campuses located in Gravelbourg, Regina and Saskatoon, and offers professional and technical training in the fields of administration, education, trades, health and tourism. It is the only technical and vocational college in French in Saskatchewan since 1918. Students can study a wide variety of programs in French, including business administration, early childhood education, journalism, occupational therapist assistant, health care attendant and more.

8. Career Colleges

Career Colleges, also known as private vocational schools, offer over 160 vocational training programs in Saskatchewan to prepare students for employment in a specific occupation such as business, health services, fashion, esthetics, hairstyling and more. These school are privately owned and operated but must be registered with the Ministry of Advanced Education and have received approval for the programs they are offering.

9. Reserved Seats in Health Programs Outside of Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan enters into agreements with post-secondary institutions in other provinces to reserve seats, for eligible Saskatchewan residents, in specific health programs that are not available in Saskatchewan.

These programs provide training in important health occupations that are critical to Saskatchewan's health system and where job openings exist across the province.

Programs with seats reserved at post-secondary institutions in Alberta and British Columbia include Respiratory Therapy, Nuclear Medicine Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography Occupational Therapy, Cardiovascular Perfusion, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Electro-neurophysiology and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
